Potential Training Session Topics (NOTE: many of these areas
are specifically designed for increased employment marketability,
but they also pose very good money saving skills to have in the
home, even if not using these skills professionally):
- Technology (Microsoft Office and
Windows OS training, Internet training, hardware repair and
maintenance, network administration).
- Secretarial (typing, Microsoft
Office training, Internet, paper shredders, fax machines, copy
machines, letter writing, scheduling, phone operations,
etc.).
- Automotive (car repair and
maintenance, auto cleaning, car detailing).
- Construction (home building and
repair, miscellaneous household fix-it projects, tool and safety
training).
- Home maintenance (asphalt crack
filling and sealing, painting, etc.).
- Accounting/Mathematics (TaxCut
training, budget training, simple accounting training, Excel
training, math tutoring/teaching).
- Home-making (cost saving seminar for
parenting needs, parenting discussion forums and training
sessions, help-line via e-mail or phone, laundry, trash, and dish
routines, consulting/counseling services, organization of
baby-sitting co-ops (would need significant background checks of
course)).
- Fitness and Health (nutrition and
fitness training with cost saving tips)
- Counseling (sessions on Christian
family and marriage counseling including temperament
profiles).
- Small Business Training (seminar on
the ins and outs of successfully running a small
business).
- Insurance (seminar on how to save on
home and auto insurance).
- Financial Counseling (seminars, free
consultations, budget planning, etc.).
- Arts (sculpting, painting, drawing,
graphics design, film making, digital photography,
etc.).
- Real-estate (training session on how
to increase your property value yourself, things to consider, ways
to save money).
- Volunteer opportunities (each
seminar should offer constructive ways for students to use their
skills, even if it isn’t a paid situation. Students need to
understand that volunteer experience in these skilled areas looks
awfully good on a resume and increases their marketability and
does a great good in the community).
